It’s just not fall until Franklin and Southampton tussle on the football field. The two schools will renew their annual rivalry Friday night in Franklin at 7 p.m.

Although this a non-district game, the rivalry continues to be a big game each year. Franklin has won the last two years.

Coaches Darren Parker and Littleton Parker know each other well. Darren was a player for Southampton under Littleton Parker in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

“Franklin and Southampton has been a rivalry even when I played at Southampton,” Darren Parker said. “It’s one of those games when you throw out the records. It’s going to come down to who wants it most and who executes.”

“We pretty much know what to expect from Franklin and they know what to expect from us,” Littleton Parker said.

Franklin is fresh off a 50-0 thrashing over Northampton last Friday. Darren Parker said the Broncos need to be ready for a well-coached team.

“We are expecting a very well coached and disciplined team this week. Coach Parker and his staff will have them ready and up for the game,” Darren Parker, Franklin head coach said. “They will be disciplined and fundamentally sound. We have to concentrate on how we play and execute in all three phases of the game.”

Littleton Parker, who’s team fell 17-7 to Bruton on Friday, said he has watched Franklin play.

“They’ve got a good ball club. I saw them in the benefit game against Smithfield,” Littleton Parker said. “It’s going to boil down to the team that makes the least mistakes. It’s bragging rights around the area. That’s what it’s all about.”
