Moses B. Mumford
IVOR—Moses Beamon Mumford, 85, died Sept. 1, 2009, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Southampton County, the son of the late Virgie Beaton and Moses Anthony Mumford.
Mr. Mumford was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Agnes Mumford, Gladys Mumford, and Edna Mumford.
An Army veteran of World War II, he retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Contract specialist after 25 years of service. Prior to his service at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he worked as a Journeyman Carpenter for 30 years.
He was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Myrtle Louelle Lungstrum Mumford; seven children, Carolyn L. Matthews, Linda S. Reeves, Roger B. Mumford, Michael A. Mumford, L. JoAnn Drake, Catherine L. Rhodes, Shannon R. Hedgepeth; 18 grandchildren, Leslie H. Matthews Jr., Mickey T. Matthews, Tiffany C. Turner, Nancy Marie Reeves, J. Danielle Drake, Cathleen A. Rhodes, Mandy L. Rogers, Amy L. Rhodes, Heather D. Dunlow, Shawn E. Drake, Melonie A. Mumford, Michael A. Mumford Jr., Roger B. Mumford Jr., Diana P. Rhodes, Laura R. Hedgepeth, Brandon L. Hedgepeth, Justin K. Hedgepeth, Jordan R. Hedgepeth; 20 great-grandchildren, Destiny C. Turner, April M. Turner, Shawn J. Merriman, Jr., Sara A. Matthews, Allyssa M. Rogers, Adrian M. Rhodes, Linda M. Rogers, Caitlyn M. Dunnagan, Ethan M. Rogers, Connor L. Perry, Chase D. Dunnagan, Ryan A. Mumford, Jamie L. Drake, Jenna M. Drake, Cavan M. Dann, Reese T. Mumford, Connor R. Drake, Erica B. Dann, Cole G. Mumford, and Alyssa M. Dunlow.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
Interment, with military honors, will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
