SUFFOLK—Janice Lee Blythe Hollowell died Sept. 2, 2009, after a long illness.
She was born on August 13, 1924 the daughter of the late Charlie and Sweetie Lee Blythe of Southampton County.
She was the widow of Robert Edward Hollowell.
Mrs. Hollowell was predeceased by her oldest son, Charles L. “Chuck” and her siblings Shirley B. March, Charles M. Blythe, Edgar Blythe, Stella B. Richardson, Margaret B. Wilson, Vina B. Overby and Virgie B. Harrison.
Always the caregiver, she graduated from the first LPN School of Nursing at Southampton Memorial Hospital where she worked for many years in labor and delivery, nursery and obstetrics and gynecology. She loved her work and all those whose lives she touched. She was a lifelong member of the Hunterdale Christian Church and active in many of the church’s fellowship programs.
When she was not busy with work or her church activities, her favorite pastimes included bird watching, collecting her porcelain bird figurines, gardening and visiting with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son Fred D. Hollowell and his wife Maxine of Franklin and her daughter Barbara Jo Hollowell Trinite and her husband Chris of Richmond.
Her granddaughters and their families Heather Hollowell, Melanie Outlaw, Amber Rikard, Heidi Denson and seven great grandchildren will all miss “Mee Maw.”
Surviving siblings are Lola B. Bass and Carey Blythe of Southampton County, Claris B. Graham of Portsmouth and Doris B. Holt of Lugoff, SC. Mrs. Hollowell also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday one hour prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. Internment will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery.
