FRANKLIN-The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Franklin and Southampton and Isle of Wight counties. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create favorable conditions for heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures in the area are expected to top out around the 100-degree mark this afternoon. The heat index, or the feel-like temperature, is expected to be between 103 and 108 degrees.

The advisory period is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. During these hours, people should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of direct sunlight and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The heat is expected to continue on Tuesday, with high temperatures in the upper-90s.
