Give the police time to gather information

To the Editor:

It never seems to stop, all this angst and confusion over a police action. I’m talking about failure to comply with a lawful police order.

Unfortunately this time it involves the president of the United States, a distinguished professor and a very professional policeman.

When will people get the message that a policeman is doing his job? He is privy only to the information immediately at hand, either from his personal observation or police dispatch.

All you have to do is allow him to gather for himself the unknown details of the situation.

Believe me, he makes an arrest only as a last resort.

Descending from a long line of police, going back to the turn of the previous century, I have heard it over and over.

If people would just stay calm, give the policeman time to gather the appropriate information, all will be resolved — peacefully.

Remember: COP translates to “Coordinator of Peace.”

Keep quiet and allow him to do his job.
