Leland G. Turner Sr.
SUFFOLK—Leland Garland Turner Sr., 86, died July 29, 2009.
A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late William E. Turner and Elizabeth Garris Turner.
He was also predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Annie G. Holland Turner.
Mr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
He retired as owner and operator of Turner Electrical and Mechanical Contractors. He was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church for more than 50 years, a member of the Laymen’s Sunday school class and served as a deacon.
He was a member of the Eastover Ruritans and the Suffolk Golf Association.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna T. Carroll (Ben) of Wakefield, Annette T. Yost (Billy) of Suffolk and Sharon T. Stone (Joe) of Suffolk; a son and daughter- in-law, Leland Garris Turner Jr. (Nancy) of Suffolk; grandchildren, Rossie Carroll (Amy), Shannon T. Saunders (Richard), Daphne T. Russell (G.W.), Jon Stone, Jason Yost, Jonathan Yost (Amy), and Drew Yost; great-grandchildren, Abbie Carroll, Collin Carroll, Brayden Russell, Tanner Yost and Colton Yost; and one brother, Roland C. Turner.
A funeral was to be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Tommy Reynolds.
Burial was to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
