She’s thankful for local day care workers

To the Editor:
It is a hard job in this day and time to make sure that your child is cared for and taught the necessary fundamentals in preparation for school and everyday life.
In our household, my husband and I both work. We are up at 6 a.m., and my son is dropped at day care by 7:30 a.m.
We both work until 5 p.m., and my son doesn’t get picked up until 5:30 p.m. or later some days.
By the time we finally get to sit down together and actually have quality time, it is usually about 7 p.m. This leaves little time for “teaching” when my son wants to play. Next is bath time and bed by 9 p.m. My son starts kindergarten in September, and although we have done our best to teach him colors, shapes, numbers, letters, etc., it has been hard, as I am sure it is with any family.
I just want to say a huge thank you to Little Hearts Big Minds Daycare. This is not just some ordinary day care where the kids just play all day.
These woman have molded and taught my son so much that it amazes me. He is in a structured environment and is taught lessons and even comes home with homework. My son is only 4 but amazes me with his knowledge and how smart that he actually is.
We work with him at home but without the wonderful, caring women who take care of my son every Monday to Friday, I don’t know what we would do and don’t know if my son would be as prepared for kindergarten as he is.
Like any mother, I am scared for my son to start “big boy” school, but not because I am worried that he isn’t prepared. I just don’t want my little boy to grow up.
I would like to thank Nikki Story for being with him since the beginning and Sara King for always having breakfast ready and a cup of milk. Teresa Bourgeois, you have taught my son so much and loved and taken such good care of him and for that I am blessed — blessed that you have been such a influential part of my son’s life. He loves you and it will kill me to take him from you come September.
Sara Holland is the owner of Little Hearts Big Minds and is there every day from open to close. She makes sure that my child is taken care of and safe. She is also the most wonderful person I know.
