Charles L. Crowder
COURTLAND—Charles L. Crowder, 82, known to many as “Sleepy, died July 25, 2009, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Crowder was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Nick Wright Auto in the Parts Department and retired from NASA Langley Research Center.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lucy Ann Worrell and one brother, Robert B. Crowder and wife Jean of Suffolk; four nieces, Susan Crowder Cyr, Nancy Crowder Rogerson of Suffolk, Lori Jean Cogsdale of Raleigh, N.C., Ercelle Cogsdale Vann; one nephew, James Cogsdale one Newsoms; and many great-nieces and nephews.
One deceased niece, Kimberly Cogsdale Gurganus.
Mr. Crowder was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Portsmouth.
A graveside service was conducted at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Tuesday.
Loving Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
