July 4 was a day to remember in Sedley

To the Editor:

America, United States of America. USA. Freedom.

All of these are wonderful and beautiful words to hear. It is great to live in the USA and be able to celebrate Independence Day.

That is what happened in Sedley on July 4 . The small town was full of excitement and anticipation of the plans that had been made.

This was quite different from last year when there was not as big a celebration as there had been the last 20 years.

The Sedley Recreation Association and a group of community volunteers met, came up with plans, fundraised, made contacts, and if you were in Sedley on the Fourth you saw and took part in the wonderful day of events that were planned for all to enjoy.

Someone greater than we are took care of making sure the weather was absolutely beautiful so all the plans could be carried through.

There was something for all to enjoy — parade, basketball, horseshoe and cornhole tournaments, poker run, motorcycle, fire truck and car show, carnival games, ballgames, music, clogging, lots of good food and much more.

To end the day, there was a beautiful display of fireworks that lit up the sky.

Thanks to everyone who took part in any way to make this day “a day to remember in Sedley.”

Mark your calendar to be in Sedley next July Fourth.
