Lena M. Herndon
SUFFOLK—Lena M. Herndon, 74, of Suffolk died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
She was a native of Wakefield and the daughter of the late Richard Brock Sr. and Matilda Brock.
She retired from Planters Peanut Co. She was a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was president of the Senior Choir, deaconess, and a member of Body by Faith and the Stewardess Board. She was also a member of Local Union 26.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James E. Herndon Sr.; four daughters, Linda Rodgers, Hazel Knight (Vernon), Gloria Herndon and Sandra Harris (Dennis) all of Suffolk; and two sons, James E. Herndon Jr. (Mary) of Suffolk and Alton Herndon (Sonya) of Oceanside, Calif.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, officiated by Pastor Wilmers Williams. Interment will be in Holly Grove Church Cemetery. The family will be at 820 Garfield Ave., Suffolk.
