To the Editor:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia, Franklin, is proud to announce some of the exciting activities planned for each of our two-week summer sessions. This week is the second week of session two — “Around the World in a Day.”

Members will be concentrating their activities on a different continent each day: South America on Monday, Africa on Tuesday, Asia on Wednesday and Europe on Thursday with a culminating trip to Busch Gardens on Friday.

Members will learn all about the cultures and people that live in each continent. Session three begins Monday and runs until July 24 with “What’s Your Talent” and “Animals All Around.” Aside from activities focusing on various skills, talents and animals, many members will learn to make jewelry, participate in a talent show, learn how to start their own business, learn how to play golf, interact with wild animals, go horseback riding and get up close and personal with a hive of bees. And there’s so much more planned for sessions four and five, in addition to traditional Boys & Girls Clubs programs such as mentoring, a Dance Team, the Garden Club, a Step Team, Torch and Keystone Clubs, and so much more.

Everything concentrates on the five core program areas: character and leadership; education and career development; the arts; health and life skills; and sports, fitness, and recreation.

What’s all this cost, you ask? After the $10 summer registration fee, each two-week session is only $25 for members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia (membership is $10 a year for children ages 6-18). All enrolled members are served breakfast and a hot and healthful lunch every day, and we even have an option for the teens who like to sleep ’til noon: For the basic $10 summer registration fee, they can participate in all the afternoon activities and exciting trips without two meals a day.

If you are interested in registering your child or are looking for more information, please call me at (757) 562-7350 or e-mail at cmonn@bgcseva.org.
