Charles N. Kirkland Jr.
GOLDSBORO, N.C.—Charles Nathaniel Kirkland Jr., 49, died July 4, 2009, at Ocracoke Island.
Mr. Kirkland was born in Suffolk on July 23, 1959.
He was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church in Virginia and a volunteer worker at the Lord’s Table Church in Goldsboro.
Survivors include his parents, the Rev. Charles Kirkland Sr. and Vivian W. Kirkland of Goldsboro, N.C.; one son, Charles Nathaniel Kirkland III of New Jersey; two daughters, Shannon Long and husband John of Ahoskie, N.C. and Samantha Kirkland of New Jersey; two brothers, John M. Kirkland and wife Melissa of Pikeville, N.C. and Alton Dale Kirkland of Newsoms; one sister, Lynne K. Smith and husband Tim of Mount Olive, N.C.; two grandchildren, William Holmes Long and David Thomas Long; and his maternal grandmother, Odell B. Worrell of Newsoms.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms

The family will be receiving friends other times at the home of his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Kirkland, 126 Trey Drive in Goldsboro, N.C.
