Enos O. Pate
NEW BERN, N.C.—Enos Obed Pate, 92, died June 25, 2009.
He was the son of the late John Caswell and Neppie Ipock Pate. 
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Powell Pate, former clerk of Craven County. 
Mr. Pate was also predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth P. Boyette and son-in-law James C. Williams III.
He served Craven County as a former Constable of No. 8 Township, serving three terms until this office was done away with.  He then became jailer of the Craven County Jail. 
He was appointed Deputy Sheriff by Sheriff Charles Berry and retired as Chief Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Bruce Edwards after 30 years in law enforcement. 
He was affiliated with Doric Lodge, York Rite and Shrines. 
He was a member of St. Mary’s Free Will Baptist Church. 
He was a recipient of the 75-year Lilly for Life Diabetic Award.
 Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn P. Williams of Franklin; three grandchildren, Lisa W.. Hagerty and husband John of Powhatan, Susan W. Osborne and husband Scott of Midlothian and James C. Williams IV of New Bern, N.C.;  three great-grandchildren, Whitney Davis Kee, Tyler Wade Kee and Ryan Scott Osborne; one brother John R. Pate and wife Maxine; one sister Viola P. McCoy, and three nieces.
 A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern, N.C. 
Burial will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. 
The family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
