SUFFOLK—Gary D. Falls, 63, died June 18, 2009, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born in Norfolk, a son of the late Beverly Woodrow Falls and Mildred Robinette Falls Oldson and was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Falls.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and public servant, Gary was a member of the U.S. Army 1st Air Calvary Division, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Falls enjoyed a 40 year career as a police officer, first serving with the Norfolk Police Department, and later with the Smithfield Police Department, Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office and the city of Franklin Police Department until his passing.
He was a former DARE officer in Isle of Wight County and a former School Resource officer in the city of Franklin. Gary was a member of the Franklin/Southampton Fraternal Order of Police and a former Carrsville volunteer firefighter.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Chyerl March Falls; four daughters, Kelli Marcus (Jim), Kimberly Rideout, Stephanie Rideout, Keri Dudley (Ryan); six grandchildren, Cameron (Bo Bo) Rideout, Carley Rideout, Hailey Falls, Julia Marcus, Cassidy Marcus, Jacob Baker; one sister, Mary Benner; and three brothers, B. Eugene Falls (Fran), Kenneth Falls (Cheryl), and David Falls (Tanya).
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Revs. Keith Rose and Brandon Sing officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Trooper Robert Hill Toy Drive, c/o the Bronco Federal Credit Union, 135 Stewart Drive, Franklin, VA 23851.
