COURTLAND—Sarah Byrum Vann, 93, widow of Johnnie D. Vann, died June 12, 2009, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Chowan County, NC, a daughter of the late Addie Davis and James Franklin Byrum. She was predeceased by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Vann; four sisters, and two brothers. Mrs. Vann was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Peggy Brady of Franklin, Ann Vann of Portsmouth, Elna Derato (Mike) of Mt. Airy, MD, Thelma Barnes (Jeff) and Vicki Daughtrey (Tommy), all of Courtland; three sons, J. D. Vann (Debbie) of Courtland, Jimmy O. Vann (Lou Scott) of Franklin, Jerry Robertson (Susan) of Sedley; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Cora Lee Parker of Murfreesboro, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11 am at Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Roger D. Crump officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 5349 E. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA 23502. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
