SUFFOLK—Janet Pierce Eure, 76, died June 4, 2009, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
Born in Windsor, she was the daughter of Mary A.E. Pierce of Suffolk and the late Gibson J. Pierce and widow of James McDonald Eure.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Pierce Godwin, Fannie Pierce Jubenville, Jerry Pierce Powell and her niece, Karen Linda Pierce.
Mrs. Eure began working in banking in 1963 with The Farmers Bank of Nansemond as Secretary to the President, continuing on and retiring from SunTrust Bank in 1983 and Resource Bank in 1998.
She was a member of Credit Women International, Suffolk chapter and held various offices at the local and state levels.
A member of Providence United Methodist Church, Janet was a member of its United Methodist Women and served in many capacities on the administrative board.
She was chairman of the last building addition program.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her brother, R. Percy Pierce and wife Josephine; sister, Barbara Pierce Piland and husband Franklin; brother-in-law, Ben F. Powell; nephews, Richard P. Pierce Jr., Brian D. Powell, wife Kelly; nieces, Mona Piland Rawls and husband Steve, Wanda Pierce Prescott and husband Frank, Heather G. Gerni and husband Darren; great-nephews, Neil Shea, Zachary Pierce, Stephen Prescott; great-nieces, Carolyn Rawls, Gabrielle Rawls, Michelle Prescott, Meghan Powell, Amanda Dalton; great-great-niece, Zaylie Kitchen and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Lisa Blackmonson.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
