Athletes deserved jackets

To the Editor:

There is something to be said about someone who can get distressed about doing something to honor young men who are still in school and trying to do something with their lives other than stand on the corners and form gangs.

I would like to say thank you to Franklin City School Board for stepping up. I thank the understanding members of the school board, who see it’s not about the money, it’s about the hard work and determination these young men put forth not only on the field, but in the classrooms also. They were determined to bring honor to their school, and they were proud to do it.

The accomplishment will also help some of them further their education through scholarships. Franklin found a way to help pay the SPSA debt, but (others found it) so distressing to find a way to give $5,000 to some deserving young men. Some of these young men have bumps and bruises, some had broken limbs, but they didn’t give up, like some people would have liked the school board do.

There are cutbacks everywhere. There are people losing their jobs all over Franklin, not just in the school system.

If the students and athletes do what they set out to do, why penalize them? Help encourage our next generation of Franklin High School athletes and not make them feel they are not deserving of these rewards.
