To the Editor:

I want to really thank everybody for all the sympathy e-mails, cards and phone calls we have received since Moonpie passed away on Friday.

It has been a tough weekend for us, but the kind words from all you that followed the adventures of Moonpie and myself have helped us greatly in coping with her death.

I have to thank The Tidewater News — both past and present staff. If it were not for the paper, the exploits of Moonpie and the Riverkeeper would never have reached so many people.

But it is you — her fans — who made Moonpie such a celebrity and, at the same time, allowed the Riverkeeper Program to deliver its message of river conservation.
