Former attorney J. Edward Moyler Jr. is set to be arraigned June 23 in Southampton County Circuit Court on nine counts of embezzlement.
If convicted on each count, Moyler could face up to 180 years in prison.
He is accused of stealing more than $4 million from clients’ estates – money that was intended for Franklin Fire and Rescue, Southampton Memorial Hospital and the University of Richmond.
The state Supreme Court has appointed retired Portsmouth judge John C. Morrison Jr. to handle Moyler’s case after area judges recused themselves.
