WINDSOR—Nandua High School bookended Windsor High School Tuesday in an 8-2 victory over the Lady Dukes in the first round of the Group A Region softball playoffs.
The Lady Warriors scored three runs in the first inning and five runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game.
Trailing 3-1, the Lady Dukes closed the gap to one run when Taylor Gay drove a two-out RBI triple down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth inning. But Nandua plated five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Chuck Parish, Windsor head coach, was pleased with his team’s effort.
“The kids settled down and came right back in the first and scored a run. We played well all game,” he said. “We battled right back and played good defense. The seventh inning they hit the ball. They are a good softball team and we knew going they were a good softball team. We had a chance to tie that thing up. We never quit.”
Windsor won the Tri-Rivers District regular season championship and also the TRD tournament championship. Windsor ended the season at 13-7. The Lady Dukes had beaten Franklin 6-5 in the TRD championship game last week.
