David L. Lanier
WAKEFIELD—David Lee Lanier, 67, died May 23, 2009, in Norfolk, after a short illness.
Born June 29, 1941 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late O’Kelley Abraham Lanier and Katherine Louise Zimmerman Lanier.
He was preceded in death by his son, David O’Kelly Lanier.
Mr. Lanier was a proficient and skilled carpenter and a retired farmer.
He was the owner of Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in Wakefield and a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church, Lanier Hunt Club, and Wakefield Sportsmen’s Club.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Almeda Slade Lanier; daughter, Marjorie Louise Gay and husband Reginald; son, Richard Lee Lanier and wife Tammy; two brothers, Albert Lanier and Robin Lanier and wife Christine; sister, Louise Garris and husband Winks, all of Wakefield; and a sister, Julie Cross and husband, Bubba of Como N.C.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and was affectionately known as “Dado” to the many children who passed through his home over the years as part of his wife, Almeda’s day care center.
He is also survived by his two special “girls,” Chrystal Curl Rogers and Brandee Curl Davenport.
A sunset interment service was held in Wakefield Cemetery Tuesday.
