SUFFOLK-Former Franklin attorney J. Edward Moyler Jr. was expected to appear in Suffolk Circuit Court this morning to answer civil judgments in the Lucille Steinhardt case.
In a previous court appearance, Moyler admitted to taking more than $4 million from the estate of Steinhardt, who died in October 2000. He was indicted last week on nine counts of embezzlement.
Moyler said in an interview last week that he “borrowed” the money and intended to pay it back. He has filed for bankruptcy protection.
The estate still has a little less than $194,000 left, according to court documents. Much of the money taken by Moyler had been willed to Franklin Fire and Rescue and Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Attorney Jack T. Randall was appointed administrator for the remainder of the account and was to give his findings to the court this morning.
The embezzlement charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
