Wallace C. Hines
PETERSBURG—Wallace C. Hines, died May 15, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Deacon Cloyd Douglas and Theresa Walker Hines.
Mr. Hines was a member of The New Hope Baptist Church, Sussex.
He was a Vietnam veteran and was employed by the Defense General Supply Center, Richmond.
He was an avid baseball player for many years. He was also a member of the New Breeds of Bellwood and Sussex Tigers of Sussex.
He leaves to cherish in his memories, a loving wife, LaVerne W. Hines; one son, Kenneth R. of Varina; one daughter, LaTonya of Minnesota; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Hines Green of Petersburg and Joyce C. Hines of Yale; two adopted sisters, Cecil Heard and Martha Massenburg, both of New York; one brother, John Marshall (Mildred); five aunts; two uncles; seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and co-workers.
A funeral service will be held at noon today at New Hope Baptist Church, Sussex, with the Rev. John A. Wynn, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2310 Van Dorn St., Petersburg.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home.
