Maxine Hicks-Arthur
GWYNN—Maxine D. Hicks-Arthur, 93, of Gwynn and New Market, formerly of the Peninsula, died May 8, 2009, at home.
She was born in Waverly on Feb. 19, 1916, the daughter of the late James Kemper and Sarah Crichton Harris. ‘Lovey’ was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a meticulous homemaker.
Mrs. Hicks-Arthur was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Latham Hicks and Yakey Arthur; her daughter, Jean D. Hicks Alexander; and nine siblings.
Survivors include her sons, Richard L. Hicks Jr. and wife Peggy, of Gwynn, George K. Hicks and wife Sandra of Yorktown and Wayne H. Hicks and wife Jeri of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; grandchildren, Marie, Richard III and wife, Shan, Dana, Melanie, George Jr. and fiancé Missy, Shannon and wife Heidi, Shawn and fiancé Shaina and Jesse Alexander; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tori and Jake.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Theis Funeral Home, 9377 Congress St., New Market.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, New Market.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mathews Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, VA 23109.
