Southampton Academy and Isle of Wight Academy will square off at 4:30 p.m. today in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools Division 3 softball playoffs.

The Lady Chargers are seeded second in the eight-team field; the Lady Raiders are seeded seventh.

The winner will play in the state semifinals Thursday afternoon in Petersburg.

In other VIS action today, Southampton Academy and Isle of Wight both open the baseball playoffs on the road. Seventh-seeded SA travels to No. 2 seed Carlisle School in Martinsville. Sixth-seeded IWA travels to No. 3 seed Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School in Powhatan.

With wins, SA and IWA would advance to the semifinals at 1 p.m. Thursday in Petersburg.
