BLACKSBURG—Bertha Eizabeth Bragg Putze, 102, died May 5, 2009, at the Kroontje Health Care Center.
She had lived at the Showalter Center in Warm Hearth Village since 2001.
She was born in Richmond on July 3, 1906, a daughter of the late Frank Alan Bragg and Maria Jones Bragg.
Mrs. Putze was married to Charles Edward Putze Sr. of Danville, who predeceased her in 1972.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Danville, and was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the church choir, church circle leader and a past president and life member of Women of the Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers; Frank Bragg, William Bragg and Alfred Bragg; and two sisters; Erma Bragg Adams and Marguerite Bragg Ragland.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter; Charles Edward Putze Jr. and wife Nancy of Danville, Dr. Robert L. Putze and wife Claudette of Franklin and Norma Jo Putze Powell and husband, Raymond “Gene” of Riner; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her grandchildren are Michael Putze of Spartanburg, S.C., Dave Powell of Raleigh, N.C., Katharyn Powell of Castle Rock, Colo., Victor Putze and Robert Putze of Raleigh and Alice Putze Taylor of Richmond.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
