Roxie B. Waters
SUFFOLK—Roxie B. Waters, 92, died April 30, 2009, at her residence.
She was a native of Bertie County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Thomas H. Brown and Mittie Jenkins Brown.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Earnest Waters Sr.; son, Snow A. Waters Sr.; and daughter, Pearl C. Waters; and brothers and sisters.
She retired as a cafeteria worker in the Suffolk Public Schools system. She was a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mother Board.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Tillery (Lee Otis) of Suffolk and Roxie G. Gillis (Lee) of Lawrenceville; three sons, Earnest Waters Jr. (Mildred), Leroy Waters (Carolyn), both of Suffolk, and Thomas Waters Jr. (Gracie) of Ivor; also reared as her children, Janice Waters, of Norfolk, Peggy Farrar of Suffolk and Snow A. Waters Jr. (Dorothy) of Suffolk; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ophelia McCray, of Chesapeake and Jeanette Jenkins (Alton), of Ahoskie, N.C.; one brother, James Brown, of Hampton, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, May 4, 2009 at Canaan Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Robert Barnes. Interment will be in Waters-Johnson Family Cemetery.
