James A. Davis
IVOR—James Arthur Davis, 81, died April 24, 2009, at his residence..
He was a native of Southampton County and the son of the late Arthur and Lethea W. Davis.
Mr. Davis was a retired farmer and member of Beulah Land AME Zion Church, where he was a steward.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine L. Davis of Ivor; three daughters, Karen Joe-Ligui of New York, N.Y., Frances Joe-Wedderburn (George) of New York and Kathy Graham (Kenneth) of New York; three sons, Sidney Joe of New York, Wayne Joe of New York and Vincent Joe (Linsey) of New Hampshire; two adopted daughters, Carol Neclos of Zuni and Pamela Warren of Courtland; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Davis of Smithfield; one brother, Edward Davis of Surry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Land AME Zion Church, 34122 Clayton Road, Zuni, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Whitney.
Interment will be in Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
