Curtis E. Owens
WINDSOR—Curtis E. Owens, 86, died April 14, 2009, in Chesapeake.
A native of Henderson, N.C., he retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a supervisor after 25 years.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and attended television repair school under the GI Bill, where he learned to be a good diagnostician.
Mr. Owens was a wonderful vegetable gardener and an avid joke teller.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ferne R. Owens; a daughter, Jennie O. Tillmann and husband Carl Wayne of Windsor; a sister, Nell White and husband Merle; a brother, R.V. Owens, all of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Ferne T. Elsass and husband Jarrod of Chesapeake and Carl W. Tillmann Jr. of Windsor; and two great-grandchildren, Grace Anne and Sebastian Holden Elsass.
He was predeceased by his parents, Chester H. and Jennie Elizabeth Lamb Owens, three brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Windsor Town Cemetery by Dr. Dan Goff.
