WAVERLY—Mary Rebecca Savedge, 86, died April 10, 2009, at Waverly Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 5, 1922, in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Emma Sue McAllister Savedge.
Miss Savedge was a graduate of Surry High School and a member of Carsley United Methodist Church, Waverly.
She was a retired bank teller and had formerly worked at the Bank of Surry and for SunTrust. During World War II, she worked at the Norfolk Naval Base.
Upon retiring, she returned to Surry County, where she enjoyed country living and horseback riding. She was a member of the Williamsburg Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; the Pocahontas Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Thomas Rolfe Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.
Survivors include her four nieces, Sue Douglas Wallace and Sally Rebecca Wallace, both of Waverly, Suzanne Savedge Flynn of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Anita Savedge Vick of Chesapeake; a nephew, J. Charles Savedge of Surry; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews
A funeral service was held Tuesday in Carsley United Methodist Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Church Cemetery, Surry.
