PENDLETON, N.C.—Janet Harris Outland, 67, died April 11, 2009, at Rich Square Health Care Center in Rich Square, N.C. after a lengthy illness.
A native of Northampton County, she was a loving wife to her husband Horace Jr. and worked as a secretary with Vicar Plant Foods in Severn, N.C.
Also, she was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church where she was very active in youth ministries. She had been preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Thelma Martin Harris and a brother, Stanley M. Harris.
Survivors include her faithful husband of 34 years, who stood lovingly by her through a lengthy illness, Horace Outland Jr. of their home; sisters-in-law, Ann Harris of Severn, Sarah O. Askew and husband Gerald of Murfreesboro, N.C., Joan O. Baker and husband Walter of Pendleton, Canara O. Harrell and husband Ronnie of Orange Park, Fla., and Julia O. Brown and husband Kenneth of Colerain, N.C.; brother-in-law, Tommy Outland and wife Ginney of Newsoms; two nieces, Jane Marie Wells and husband Joe, and Patricia Jones and husband David of Jackson, N.C.; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday in Roberts Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. James Crocker and the Rev. Dale Miller presiding.
Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, N.C., was in charge of arrangements.
The family have requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to University Health Systems Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910 or to Roberts Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund.
