Elijah Whitehead Sr.
FRANKLIN—Elijah “Buddy” Whitehead Sr., 75, died April 12, 2009, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Whitehead was born on Jan. 23, 1934, to the late Jessie and Lottie Whitehead.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
He was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church until his illness. He served as a deacon and had a passion for singing for the Lord.
He retired from Hercules. Inc. after 27 years of service.
Survivors include a devoted and loving wife, Eunice Whitehead; four children, Denise Sturdifen (Samuel) of Chesapeake, Elijah Whitehead Jr. (Bernadette) of Murfreesboro, N.C., Charles Whitehead (Subrina) of Suffolk and Natarcha Gregg (Michael) of Chesapeake; one sister, Allie B. Baker; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A homegoing service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Franklin. Pastor Robert Duck will officiate. Burial will follow services.
