The Franklin High School varsity baseball team won its first two Tri-Rivers District games last week.

On Wednesday, the Broncos beat Charles City 10-2 behind a strong pitching effort by sophomore Ryan Petrasek, who allowed only four hits in the complete-game victory. Senior Tyler Childress paced the offense, highlighted by a two-run blast over the left-field fence in the top of the first inning.

On Friday, Franklin routed Surry 13-1. Senior Ben Devore allowed only two hits in five innings of work. The game was stopped in the fifth because the Broncos led by more than 10 runs. Junior Lacurt Boone and sophomore Trey Kigler led a balanced offensive attack for the Broncos. Boone was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs, and Kigler was 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored.
