WAVERLY—Margaret Boothe Ashby, 90, and the widow of Bailey S. Ashby, died March 17, 2009, in Lakewood Manor, Richmond.
Born on Sept. 28, 1918 in Sussex County, she was the daughter of the late Burwell Franklin and Myrtle Williams Boothe.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Boothe and Carolyn Boothe Saunders.
Mrs. Ashby had been a resident of Lakewood Manor since 1996. She was a member of the Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond and a former member of the Millfield Baptist Church in Ivor and Waverly Baptist Church (and the Women’s Missionary Union of the church).
She had formerly been a very active member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. She was a member or the Waverly Womans Club, Virginia Farm Bureau, Agribusiness Council of Virginia and the Home Demonstration Club.
Margaret was the wife of Bailey Sizer Ashby for 46 years. He died on Oct. 24, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ashby Schlictherele and husband Rainer of Midlothian; a son, Stuart Ashby and wife Stephanie of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, Lauren and Hannah Schlictherele and Ben and Elizabeth Ashby.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son in Wakefield and officiated by the Rev. John Crocker.
Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
