MADISON HEIGHTS—Otho Wright Harrell Jr., 62, died March 4, 2009, at his home, after a short battle with cancer.
Born Jan. 7, 1947, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., he was a son of the late Elizabeth Pope Harrell and is survived by his father, Otho Wright Harrell Sr., of Emporia.
Mr. Harrell was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a self-employed telephone contractor and was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.
He was an avid sports fan. He was a loving husband and father, and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play ball.
Survivors include his wife, of 39 years, Loraine Shearin Harrell; his three children, Angie Creasey and husband Glenn of Sedley, Chris Harrell and wife Lauren of Madison Heights and Mark Harrell of Madison Heights; his brother, Terry Harrell and wife Deloris of Franklin; brothers-in-law, Tommy Shearin and wife Lisa and Mike Shearin and Wendy Wright; sister-in-law, Libby Wells and husband Mike; mother-in-law, Sarah Shearin, all of Emporia; three grandchildren, Taylor Prince, and Dalton Creasey of Sedley and Claire Harrell of Madison Heights; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, by the Revs. Derrik Hamby and Dan Ward.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service and at other times at the residence.
