PORTSMOUTH—Ruby Mae “Miss Ruby” Futrell died Feb. 25, 2009.
She was born in Murfreesboro, N.C., and the widow of Sherman Brad Futrell. She retired in 1984 as a nurse from Mannings Rehabilitation Center after 10 years of service and from L.N. Raitt Realtor in 1965 after 13 years of service.
She was a member of New Creation Community Church, Portsmouth.
She graduated from Crestwood Nursing School, Chesapeake. Ruby was noted in her profession for her punctuality, loving and caring spirit, and excellent work performance.
Survivors include one daughter, Beulah Harrison (James) of Portsmouth; one son, James Futrell (Dorothy) of Jamaica, N.Y.; five sisters, Leomia Clemons (Levi) of Portsmouth, Geraldine Lamar of Philadelphia, Evelyn Eley of Baltimore, Annette Peebles of Suffolk, Francis Cherry of California; one brother, Thomas Peebles of Denver; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Estell (Harrell) Peebles and Reuben Peebles and a brother, John Henry Peebles.
A funeral was held Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Timothy Brassell officiating. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
