Edith J. White
WAVERLY—Edith James White, 83, widow of J. Franklin White died Feb. 28, 2009, in Waverly.
Born in Surry County on Oct. 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J. Hayden and Grace Lane James.
She was a member of Waverly Congregational Christian Church and had served as the Historian of the church until three years ago.
She was a member of the General William Mahone Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Red Hat Social Society.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma J Edwards, of Hopewell; a brother Joseph H. James, Jr., and his wife Laura of Raleigh N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers.
She was predeceased by a brother H. Lane James of Dendron.
A funeral service was held Tuesday in Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial followed in Waverly Cemetery.
