F. Rollins Bishop Jr.
NORFOLK—Frank Rollins Bishop Jr. died Feb. 12, 2009 in Gloucester.
Born Oct. 13, 1946, he was the beloved son of Camille and Frank Bishop Sr.
As a young boy growing up in Ocean View, he climbed the sand hills to Bayview School.
His childhood was filled with glorious days on the beach listening to the chants of the haul sieners as they pulled in the days catch.
His greatest love was being on the bay in any kind of boat.
Mr. Bishop graduated from Hargrave Military Academy where he learned both study and leadership skills and excelled in wrestling.
He graduated from Marshall University in 1970 with a degree in economics.
His passion for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries led him to work in the maritime industry.
In 1972 Rollins joined McAllister Brothers working under the strong influence and leadership of Bob Benze.
He also benefited from and respected the other talented members of the maritime industry.
In 2002, he sold his partnership in Marine Fuel Logistics, but never lost his appreciation for the many friends he made throughout his career.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Woodley Bishop; and two sons, William Rollins Bishop and Frank Thomas Bishop.
A graveside service will be held at Jericho Farm on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11:30 a.m. by the Rev. Ben Duffey.
The family will receive friends today between 5 and 8 p.m. at 9501 Norfolk Ave., Norfolk, VA, 23503.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (www.cbf.org ).
