Ernest T. Bowers
ZUNI—Ernest Thomas Bowers of the 36100 block of Seacock Chapel Road, died Feb. 8, 2009, at Waverly Healthcare Center.
He was a native of Southampton County and the son of the late Howard and Pearl Harris Bowers.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Ernest T. Roosevelt Bowers; three sisters, Bertha Williams, Ethel Faulk and Mary M. Tucker; and two brothers, Twisy Bowers and Asbery Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a member of Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor where he served on the Usher Board and Men’s Day Committee.
He retired after 30 years of service at A.W. Temple Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie Faltz Bowers; two sisters, Alice B. Brown (the Rev. Addison Brown) of Chesapeake and Blanche I. Davis of Portsmouth; two sisters-in-law, Adel Bowers of Washington, D.C. and Bettie Lewis of Sedley; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
A funeral was held Friday in Gilfield Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Kenneth W. Ricks.
Interment was in Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Crocker Funeral Home Inc. handled the arrangements.
