Nelson Johnson Sr.
SMITHFIELD—Nelson Johnson Sr., 76, died Feb. 9, 2009, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
Mr. Johnson was born in Isle of Wight County to the late Brady and Oliver Johnson.
He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. He was employed with Gwaltney of Smithfield for about 32 years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen H. Johnson; two sons, Milton L. Johnson Sr. (Sterlia) of Temple Hill, Md. and Nelson C. Johnson Jr. (Dorian) of Carrollton; one daughter, Gayla J. Phillips of Smithfield; three grandchildren, Milton L. Johnson Jr. of Oxon Hill, Md., A’Darien R. Johnson of Smithfield, Sasha L. Phillips of Smithfield; one great-granddaughter, Phoenix L. Johnson of Maryland; one godson, Ernest Evans Jr. (Vivian) of Smithfield and their children, Myron and Melissa; one brother, Brady Johnson Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Dottie Harris (McKenzie) of Smithfield; and sister-in-law, Estelle Parson (Raymond) of Ivor.
A funeral service was held Thursday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
