FRANKLIN—A routine traffic stop late last week resulted in a foot chase and subsequent drug and gun charges for a 23-year-old Franklin resident.

Maurice Antone Joyner of 204 Bracy St. was charged with felony possession of marijuana, obstruction of justice, driving on a suspended license and possession of a concealed weapon after patrol officer Judson Robinson Sr. attempted to stop him for speeding Friday afternoon.

Joyner pulled into his residence and attempted to flee on foot, according to a press release issued by the Franklin Police Department on Monday.

Robinson chased and caught Joyner after a short distance. Joyner allegedly resisted arrest but was taken into custody after a struggle.

Police say they recovered approximately two ounces of marijuana and a loaded Glock 9 mm pistol after searching Joyner’s car.

Joyner is currently being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
