To the Editor:

Many thanks to Mike McManus, who generously allowed the Boykins Main Street Initiative to hold its February meeting at his newly opened-for-business ice cream shop.

Mike was one of the leading proponents in getting the initiative started in Boykins and already the results are showing.

Many other plans are in the works, thanks to several members who have dedicated a lot of their time and talent to applying for grants, attending seminars and sharing ideas.

At the Thursday meeting, 30 of the 50 members were in attendance and plans are under way for another fundraiser, investigating the possibility of a farmers’ market and sprucing up the entryways to town.

Mike and Debbie also treated the members to a taste of their delicious Hershey’s ice cream and announced that very soon the shop will also offer pizza and sandwiches. It’s encouraging to see citizens concerned about the future of our town, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary this year.
