RICHMOND—Edna Ruth Benton Jackson died Jan. 24, 2009, in VCU Medical Center.
Mrs. Jackson was a native of Southampton County.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Benton Sr. and Aretha E. Boone Benton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Jackson Sr., and son, Robert L. Jackson Jr.
Survivors include one son, Edward Benton of Richmond; five sisters, Hattie Scoggins of Branchville, Selena Ford (Fonsa) of Portsmouth, Faye Rawlings of Drewryville, Doretha Westray (Milton) of Philadelphia and Minister Yvonne Parker of Franklin; two brothers, Joseph Benton Jr. (Peggy) of Philadelphia and Johnnie Benton (Virgie) of Dover, Del.; two aunts, Classie Pope and Dora Williams, both of Como, N.C.; one uncle, Willie O. Boone (Naomi) of Murfreesboro, N.C.; mother-in-law, Mary E. Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; seven sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Cary St., Richmond, with Dr. Earl Brown officiating.
Her remains will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends will assemble for processional at 12:45 p.m. the day of service.
