FRANKLIN—Dorothy S. Lankford, 82, of the 32000 block of O’Berry Church Road, died Jan. 22, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1927, to the late Fannie and Morgan Scott in Southampton County.
She was the widow of Robert H. Lankford.
Mrs. Lankford was educated in the public schools of Virginia. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and proceeded to live her life in a manner pleasing to God.
She was a faithful member of O’Berry AME Zion Church. She worked tirelessly and never complained until her health began to fail.
She was once a class leader and an officer on the Stewardess Board. She also served in other capacities at the church.
Survivors include one daughter, Eulah Jones of Franklin; three sons, John Lankford and Harvey Lankford of Franklin and Alvin Lankford of Newport News; 10 grandchildren, Harvey Jr. (Sylvia), Michael (Candy), Alvin, Lucas, Jackie (William), Kimberly, Amanda (Larry), Linda, Cynthia (Joey) and Marcus; 16 great-grandchildren; two goddaughters and one godson; aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A homegoing service was held Tuesday at O’Berry AME Zion Church.
Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
