FRANKLIN—Police are investigating a homicide and possible attempted burglary that occurred Friday morning at a house on South High Street.
According to police, Brad Harris, 29, was killed after a gunman fired a single shot into his bedroom from outside his home at 509 S. High St.
Authorities said they do not believe that a car chase and subsequent crash that occurred several hours later only a few blocks away were related to the slaying.
“We don’t have anything to make us believe they are related,” Lt. Tim Whitt said.
Police said Harris’ girlfriend called 911 at 7:16 a.m. to report a burglary in progress.
Harris, his girlfriend, and Harris’ 3-year-old daughter were all in the home at the time of the shooting.
It was not clear if the shot that killed Harris was fired before or after the 911 call, but police said the gunman never entered the home. Whitt said officers arrived on the scene minutes after the call was received.
“We have reason to believe that the victim was the intended victim,” Whitt said. “It was not a random act. We believe that the perpetrators were, in fact, looking for him.”
Franklin police received assistance from the forensics unit of the Suffolk police, Whitt said.
Police had not charged anyone with the crime as of press time Friday night.
