WINDSOR—Town police believe a man who was shot multiple times, then drove to a friend’s house, parked in the driveway and honked the horn for help, was shot elsewhere and are investigating.

According to Windsor Police, authorities responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 50-block of Church Street at 1:24 a.m. Wednesday.

“The location was an acquaintance of the victim,” Police Chief Robert Porti said.

When police arrived, they found a 39-year-old white male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was flown by helicopter to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery, police said.

The status and identity of the victim were not released.

Porti said the shooting was under investigation. He said authorities do not believe the shooting occurred where the victim was found. A press release on the incident said “it appears the victim drove himself to this location to seek help for his injuries.”
