With up to 5 inches of snow possible, Western Tidewater is under a winter storm warning beginning at 9 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield issued the warning for northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, including Franklin, Southampton County and Isle of Wight County.

A mix of rain and snow starting tonight will turn to all snow and continue throughout the day Tuesday, forecasters predict. Snow accumulation of 2 inches to 5 inches is possible. The warning is set to expire at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Driving will be “very hazardous” or “impossible,” the Weather Service said.
