William R. Beniker
VIRGINIA BEACH—William R. “Chief” or “Mr. Beniker”. 79, formerly of Pleasure House Road, died Jan. 7, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Robin Jones in Alvarado, Texas.
Fire Chief Beniker retired from the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base Fire Dept. and the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Fire Dept. and was predeceased by his wife, Edith T. Beniker and son, Joseph S. Agate.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Chief Beniker was a member of Ocean View Lodge No. 335, Scottish Rite and Khedive Temple of Shrine and Khedive Fire Brigade.
He was also a member of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Fire Protection Association, the American Legion, International Association of Fire Chiefs and a life member of the VFW.
Survivors include sons, Mike Agate and wife Debbie of Franklin and William Beniker Jr. of Texas; three daughters, Terry Vickers of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kathleen Agate of Fort Worth, Texas and Robin Jones and husband Bud of Alvarado; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel.
Burial followed in Rosewood Memorial Park.
