Sylvia B. Dickens
PORTSMOUTH—Sylvia Britt Dickens, 72, died Jan. 11, 2009, in Portsmouth.
A native of Robeson County, N.C., she was a former teacher for Portsmouth Public Schools, co-owner of D&W Book and Gift Shop and a member of West Side Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, G. Norman Dickens; a daughter, Kimberly A. Dabney of Portsmouth; a son, James N. Dickens and wife Tracey of Zuni; two sisters, Jane Britt Taylor of McDonald, N.C., and Marvin Lynne Maxwell of Shannon, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Danielle, William, Logan and Madison.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in West Side Christian Church by the Rev. Nathan Brown.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to West Side Christian Church General Fund or Portsmouth Project Life Saver, 701 Crawford St., Portsmouth, VA 23704.
