Steven L. Farrell
JARRATT—Steven Lee Farrell, 59, died Jan. 6, 2009, from congestive heart failure.
Mr. Farrell was the son of the late Horace Farrell and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Wheme Allen “Buddy” Farrell.
He graduated from Southern Adventist University with a BA in English. He received his master’s degree in education administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
He was an academic instructor at Southampton Correctional Center from 1972 to 2004 and was assistant principal of Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt from 2004 to 2008. Steve loved the beach, arts, hiking and canoeing.
He enjoyed spending time with his niece and nephew. He attended the first Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C., and along with his sister Kay, never missed one for 30 years. He was truly a people-person loved by many. Steve was a member of Pittsboro Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pittsboro, N.C.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sisters, Kay Farrell of Winter Springs, Fla. and Madelyn Farrell Mann and husband Terry “Bunny” Mann of Bynum, N.C.; uncle, Almon Farrell of Bel Air, Md.; aunt, Joanna Caravias of Pittsboro, N.C.; niece, Shelley Marie and nephew, Zach Farrell Mann.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Yale Seventh-day Adventist Church in Yale.
Inurnment will be in the St. George Cemetery, St. George, S.C., where his father is interred.
